5 Signs It’s Time to Size Up

Kids grow incredibly fast! One minute their new trainers fit perfectly, and the next, they are bursting right out of them. But how can you tell exactly when it is time for a brand new pair?

Here is a simple and fun checklist to help you spot when your little one has officially outgrown their shoes.

The Sizing Checklist

  • The Big Toe Test: Give the front of the shoe a gentle press while your child is standing up. You should be able to feel a thumb width of space between their longest toe and the end of the shoe. If their toes are touching the front, it is definitely time for an upgrade.

  • Red Marks and Rubbing: Take a quick peek at their feet right after you take their shoes off. If you spot red marks, angry blisters, or deep indents on their heels or little toes, the shoes are likely too tight.

  • Sudden Shoe Struggles: Are they suddenly refusing to put their favourite shoes on? If your child keeps pulling their shoes off, dragging their feet, or complaining of pinching, listen to them! Comfort is absolutely key for growing feet.

  • Scuffed Toes and Worn Soles: A lot of heavy wear and tear right at the very front of the shoe can mean their toes are pushing too far forward. Look at the soles too, because uneven wear often points to a poor fit.

  • The Heel Bulge: Check the back of the shoe while they are standing. If their heel is spilling over the back edge or looks squashed inside, those shoes have done their time.

What to Do Next

If you nodded along to any of these points, it is time to measure those busy feet! You can use our handy at-home measuring guide on Jump Shoes to find their perfect new fit. Healthy, happy feet need plenty of room to wiggle, jump, and play.

Top Tip: Check their shoe fit every six to eight weeks for toddlers and every three to four months for older children. They grow quicker than you think!
